Chemistry Summer Internship 2017

Job Description

As a chemist, you will drive the next generation of gas technology by synthesizing materials and optimizing kinetics. As part of the close-knit NuMat team, you will get the opportunity to collaborate across functional and organizational lines.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Synthesis of MOFs and related organic ligands based on established procedures.
  • MOF characterization and kinetic studies using ICP-MS, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy.
  • Reports directly to a Senior Chemist.

About You

  • You have undergraduate experience in chemistry.
  • You know standard organic synthesis and characterization techniques, including column chromatography, recrystallization, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for 1H and 13C nuclei, inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy.
  • You preferably have experience working with metal-organic frameworks.

About NuMat

NuMat is an award-winning technology company committed to enabling fundamental performance shifts in gas storage and separation. NuMat is focused on commercializing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a class of high-performing sorbents that can be tailor-designed at the atomic level for specific uses. NuMat's unique capabilities are based on key technological advancements in computational design, laboratory synthesis, and large-scale production of MOFs, which has enabled NuMat to rapidly prototype full-scale products with strong market interest. To date, NuMat has identified materials that show significant promise in the storage of natural gas, electronic gases, oxygen, and industrial gases, as well high-value gas separation and purification.

Location

At NuMat's main office in beautiful Skokie, IL.
